Safety and respect for everyone is one of the pillars of all our association's activities and that is why, in addition to the general way in which it works to implement a sense of well-being, respect and inclusion in all its activities, the SAFE SPACE was created .
SAFE SPACE is not a physical place, as Espaço Baião intends to be a safe place in all its extensions, but a place formed by a group of people who are available, throughout the event, to help in any situation of discomfort that someone cannot resolve.
All interpersonal relationships involve two distinct and unique people, so it is natural that situations may arise in which you do not agree, in which you have different opinions and points of view... These “disagreements” can lead to conflicts that, on the one hand, On the other hand, if resolved, they can generate significant progress in the relationship, strengthening it. However, on the other hand, these conflicts can make both people feel misunderstood, angry, upset or hurt, and can cause the situation/relationship to create tension.
Therefore, and knowing that conflicts cannot be avoided, it is important to understand them so that we can resolve them in the best way.
It serves the SAFE SPACE program to moderate when someone approaches us regarding a situation.

SAFE SPACE is not a physical place, as Espaço Baião aims to be a safe place throughout, but a place made up of a group of people who are available, throughout the event, to help in any uncomfortable situation that someone is unable to resolve.
All participants, teachers, monitors, scholarship holders, volunteers, sponsors and external partners in all activities developed by Espaço Baião must accept the following code of conduct.
We expect everyone's cooperation to help ensure a safe environment for all.
Espaço Baião is dedicated to providing a harassment-free event experience for everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, age, disability, physical appearance, body size or religion (or lack thereof).
Harassment of any kind is not tolerated in any situation. Harassment includes offensive verbal comments, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, harassing photographs or recordings, continuous disruption of lectures or other events, inappropriate physical contact and unwanted sexual attention.
Sexual language and imagery in social situations will not be permitted in any venue where Espaço Baião activities take place, including regular classes, dances, workshops, parades, competitions and the media.
Failure to comply with these guidelines will have implications such as being asked to leave the premises until the authorities are called.
SAFE SPACE | Help options
- Send an e-mail to baiaoespaco@gmail.com or baiaoinlisboafestival@gmail.com;
- Seek out one of the SAFE SPACE members (photos and names below) in person during any event;
- All questions will be treated in the strictest confidence. Your courage in making the situation known can prevent incidents from happening again.
- The organization will notify the person in question and inform them that they are behaving inappropriately and that if they do so again, they will be asked to leave by event security and/or in the event of resistance, by the local authorities without reimbursement of the ticket price;
- The SAFE SPACE team at Espaço Baião will also be happy to provide companionship or other assistance to victims who feel the need to be referred to more professional and specialized support.
