THE ESPAÇO BAIÃO
Espaço Baião was born from the culmination of more than 20 years of research and love for a culture and a musical style: Forró.
After passing and promoting Forró dances in many of the best venues in Lisbon, Enrique Matos, founder of Projecto Forró de Lampião, today Baião in Lisboa Festival, opened the doors of this space in 2015 where you can breathe and feel Brazilian Culture, with main emphasis on Forró and Samba de Gafieira, among many other forms of art expression.
This journey begins long before the opening of its first official doors in 2015, the course of this space dates back to 2010 with the first Forró classes given by its founder in Lisbon. Its first headquarters took place in the former premises of a primary school above the emblematic Ateneu Comercial, in the heart of downtown Pombaline. After two years, the Space moved to Anjos 70, one of the most alternative, innovative spaces in Lisbon with a very special and unique character until today, in 2023, it has returned to spread its classes across Lisbon and now also arrives in the municipality neighbor, Oeiras.
Espaço Baião develops various cultural and social activities. Promoting interaction between students in the "after-class" is also one of its main objectives. Movie sessions, dance practices, gatherings, outdoor events and many other events are just some of the components of the school's diversified calendar.
Espaço Baião organizes several annual Forró events with special emphasis on the Baião in Lisboa Festival, an event that since 2011 has welcomed people from the four corners of the world to share a passion, Forró. It also organizes the Maria Bonita Festival, a festival dedicated to the role of followers in dance.
In addition to its own festivals, Espaço Baião is present and partners with other dance festivals of great importance in the panorama of national and international dance festivals, which makes them increasingly aware of and enriches their strength of being in the midst of music and dance.
Today, Espaço Baião has classes at the Mercado de Culturas in Arroios, as well as classes at Casa do Brasil, Fábrica do Braço de Prata, at BUS Paragem Cultural and at the headquarters of CDPA in Paço de Arco - Oeiras. The Espaço team is made up of several dance professionals whose mission is to become a national and international reference when it comes to training new dancers and raising the name and culture of Forró and Samba de Gafieira in the world.

OUR TEAM
Espaço Baião has a panel of teachers with many years of experience and renowned in their rigor and professionalism, adapting their classes to the needs of members/students and making classes a contagious experience.
They are also joined by a group of young teachers as well as a group of monitors trained at our school who support and streamline our classes so that we can reach all students in a more personalized way.
